These cute heart nail designs are perfect for beginners
There’s something about having cute nails that makes me act like a whole new woman. From the pretty patterns and sassy shapes, to the satisfying tapping sound they make when I type messages on my phone, having a fresh mani gives me a superior kind of confidence.
Personally, I consider getting your nails done every few weeks to be a luxury, and whilst I love dipping my toe (or fingers in this case) into the warm waters of luxe life, there’s something about parting with upwards of £40 every few weeks that stresses me out.
Having ended up on scrolling through #nailtok one too many times, the urge to start doing my own gel manicures eventually became impossible to ignore. So, back in the November Black Friday sales, I finally bit the bullet and bought myself the Mylee gel kit to kickstart my nail journey!
Jump ahead to to heart nail art
I’m the first person to admit that art doesn’t come naturally to me. But armed with some nail brushes, acetone and a whole load of patience, I was determined to make my gel nails dreams a reality. Taking inspiration from Pinterest and Insta, I’ve since saved hundreds of designs (mostly aspirational) to test out on myself, with the aim of improving every time.
As a matter of coincidence (or obsession), most of the designs I have done on myself so far have included cute little hearts. Having figured out that these can look quite impressive whilst being relatively easy to do, they have become my new favourite style. So for all the budding nail techs out there, or simply those who want to save some money, I thought I’d share some of my fave heart nail designs that are perfect for beginners. Trust me, if I can do it, you can do it too.
How to draw hearts with a nail brush
First thing’s first, for those who don’t know, here’s a mini crash course on drawing hearts on your nails…
- Use a nail brush that has a circle dotter on the end and dip the dotted end into your chosen colour.
- Draw a small dot of polish on the nail, then another small dot just next to it.
- Flip your nail brush over to the bristles side, and dip lightly into your polish.
- Use the brush to connect the two dots into a little heart shape, and fill in any gaps.
The simple hearts
My first attempt at heart nail art, I was pretty happy with how these little cuties turned out! This is one of those simple-yet-effective designs that looks like it took you ages when it didn’t. Perfect for Valentine’s but also gorgeous any other time of the year, simply take a light pink base colour, and use a nail brush to draw on your little hearts in red. Et voilà, the artiste is born!
The accent hearts
You can’t go wrong with a classic accent nail, and for this design I wanted my ring finger to look extra cute. Ideal for anyone who doesn’t want to go too girly with their mani, this brown and light pink combo is a neutral twist on the heart design and looks great for everyday wear!
The Valentine’s tips
Some of my best work to date (even if I do say so myself). This mani might have given me a concentration headache from trying to steady my shaky hand, but it was totally worth it in the end. A romantic twist on the French tip, this design made me feel super girly and cute over Valentine’s weekend…it’s just a shame my nails broke the week after.
The fresh French
In a bid to style out my broken nail situation, I opted for a classic French mani next. I must say, this design is so elegant and chic that it has made me fall in love with low maintenance, shorter nails. Paired with the little pop of red from the hearts on the accent nails, this might be one of my most sophisticated styles yet! French people really know their stuff.
I may not be a manicure maestro just yet, but even as a beginner, I think I’ve been able to pull together some cute designs! Which is your favourite look so far? Let me know in the comments below!
