Comfort is Key
If you’re anything like me then you know exactly where your priorities lie when it comes to winter fashion. Maintaining your personal style is important, and of course, even in the colder months you always want your outfit to be on point. But above everything else, there’s one key factor that outweighs everything when putting together an outfit: comfort.
In life, I like to take my advice from the wise words of Coco Chanel: ‘luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury‘. If you’ve been following my blog for a while now, then you will know that this is probably the 100th time I’ve referenced that quote, simply because it will always be relevant to the way I view fashion. I strongly believe that being comfortable can transform the way you pull off an outfit, because with comfort comes confidence, and confidence makes an outfit. Of course, I love to dress up and put on nice heels and dresses, and I feel confident in those too, but during the winter months, nothing beats a fluffy jumper, a cosy co-ord or a duvet-esque coat. Essentially, when I go outside, I want it to feel like I never left my bed. Comfy chic is my go-to style right now and so I wanted to share some of my favourite cosy-but-cute outfits from this season with you!
LOOK ONE
This outfit is pretty much entirely made up from items that I got last, or a couple of years ago and am still loving to this day. Don’t you just love finding those forever items?
These faux leather leggings were an absolute STEAL from Primark a couple of years ago. I got them in the sale for just FIVE pounds. And here they are, still serving me well years later! I love these leggings because they can be easily dressed up or down and are that little bit more interesting than your average black jean or legging.
I paired the leggings with this gorgeously soft and cosy hoodie that I got last year from H&M. This hoodie has served me SO well since I have had it. It’s helped me through hungover days, cold winter days, and pretty much any day where I wanted to throw on something comfy.
I love the way it looks with the leggings because I love how the textures contrast and compliment each other. And of course, it is insanely comfortable. Combined with the simple black bumbag, chunky trainers and these gorgeous little lilac cat-eye sunnies, this look is the ultimate casual-yet-chic outfit!
I love this look because it’s so easy to throw on and comfortable to wear all day, but still has really nice elements to it. Who says wear all black is boring?
LOOK TWO
In a rather drastic switch up, I have gone from an all black ensemble to my favourite winter whites. This is without a doubt one of my favourite outfits of the season AND one of the comfiest I own…I mean, just look at that coat.
Once again, this outfit is all from last year, starting with the joggers from Manière de voir that I got as a birthday present! I do have the matching top as well, but in this outfit I opted for a white hoodie from Zara instead. Both the hoodie and the joggers are insanely cosy, not too oversized, but not tight or constricting at all!
Of course, the main feature of this outfit is this amazing coat that I have been desperate to get out my wardrobe all year. I got this coat from Topshop as a present last Christmas and it really is the cosiest thing I have ever worn. This is the kind of coat that will protect you from the wind and keep you snug all day. Plus, it pretty much goes with everything in my wardrobe, so you can just put it on over any outfit and voilà, you’re good to go.
Theres something about wearing all white in winter that makes for such a crisp, cool look. As lazy as this outfit is, I felt super boujie when I wore it (probably had something to do with the amazing sunglasses my friend lent me). I might look like one of the members of East 17 in the ‘Stay Another Day’ music video but hey, I’m not mad about it, and it is Christmas after all.
LOOK THREE
Another simple yet effective outfit courtesy of my favourite high street shop here. I bought this cardigan from Primark a year ago and have worn it SO many times since because it literally goes with everything. It is super oversized and comfy and can be styled in so many different ways. If you saw my One Cardigan, Three Outfits post then you will know some of my fave ways to style this, and now I’ve come back with yet another look to add to the collection.
I paired the cardi with this knitted midi skirt from Primark to create my own makeshift little co-ord! This skirt is super comfy and easy to throw on, but also very flattering because it hugs your figure nicely! The slits at the side make it easy to walk in, whilst the thick material helps to keep you warm!
I think this looks really nice with the cardigan off the shoulder and a gold chain to decorate the neckline. I also finished the look off with a pop of colour using my gorgeous pink bag from Voyage Time. I love what this brings to the outfit and it just makes the all black ensemble that little bit more interesting!
This is definitely something that could be dressed up or down, but I think it’s perfect for every day wear. So easy to move in, but flattering on the figure. It really is a win-win situation!
LOOK FOUR
Okay so it’s official. I’ve found the coat of my dreams. Everything that I’ve been looking for and more.
If you saw my post about Newlife Stores Launch Party Event then you may have already seen a sneak peak of this coat, but I finally took it on its first trip out the other day, and I pretty much haven’t taken it off since…
This coat was previously on high street shelves, but was passed on to Newlife Stores when the shop changed its line, stopping it from going to landfill and contributing to the enormous waste of fast fashion. It cost me less than £15 and all of the profits went to charity which is just AMAZING. This really was a love at first sight purchase and I am so happy I found it that day. The cosiest and softest material EVER, this coat gives the Topshop one a run for its money, in terms of comfort AND boujie-ness.
I paired the jacket with my straight leg black jeans from Primark that have been a staple in my wardrobe for over a year now. They are so comfortable, flattering, and not too tight on the leg, which is exactly how I like my jeans to be.
I simply wore a knitted white jumper from Primark on top which is also super soft and goes with everything. I kept the base of this outfit simple to highlight the amazingness of the coat. And I finished off the outfit with this cute little bag that I got from a charity shop, and of course, some killer cat-eye shades.
I have nothing else to say about this coat other than that is has quite literally completed me. Sassy, soft, super warm, it’s everything I ever wanted. Can you imagine if this baby had been sent to landfill?!
So I hope that wasn’t too much fluff, fuzz and faux fur for you to handle. But I would like to think I have pretty much summed up comfy chic in a blog post. These outfits are my favourite looks to wear right now and to be honest, I’m thinking of just wearing them constantly in rotation until the season is over. There really is nothing better than an outfit that gives you ultimate comfort and ultimate style, all wrapped up in a ridiculously thick and cosy coat. Thanks to these items, I don’t need to hibernate this winter, and I’m still looking as sassy as ever.
