How to Get Your Glow Back
With autumn in full swing, colder, rainier weather has become the new norm for us here in the UK. Right now, it feels as if clear blue skies are nothing but a distant memory, so during these grey days, how do we prevent our skin from looking as drab and dreary as the picture outside our window? I don’t know about you, but personally I am not a fan of the effects that colder weather has on my skin. There’s something about autumn / winter that just makes my face feel so dull, dry, and just generally more fatigued than in the summer months. So this year I’ve decided to take a stand. With the help of some fabulous products that I’m obsessed with right now, I wanted to do a little post about my updated skincare routine and how it should help maintain healthy skin throughout the winter. Because the temperature might have dropped but the glow doesn’t have to go.
The key ingredient that inspired this blog post, and that is featured in almost all of the products, is a wonderful little thing called vitamin C. A certified glow booster, vitamin C not only boosts your skin’s collagen production and helps to repair damage, but its antioxidant properties help to fight off the harmful effects of UV radiation. The result? Younger, healthier looking skin! The products I am going to share with you can all be used in conjunction with one another for a sure-fire way of maintaining radiant skin all year round. So, let’s get into it.
The Body Shop Vitamin C Cleansing Polish
I first started using this facial wash after being recommended by my mum who has been using it for 5 years, yep 5 years guys, so it must be doing something right.
This facial wash is said to help reveal your glow, and cheer up dull, tired, or grumpy skin, containing extracts of the vitamin C rich camu camu berry. So the first thing I love about this product is the smell. Fresh and fruity, but nothing too intense or sweet, it strikes the perfect balance for me. Secondly, this product is a light exfoliant, but not too abrasive on the skin. This means that it’s perfect for everyday exfoliation to get rid of excess dead skin cells, but it doesn’t leave your skin red raw and is fine to use on sensitive skin too!
It comes in at £11, but a little bit goes a long way with this product, so it should last you a long time. Plus, The Body Shop always have some sort of deal on, so you can usually get it for a reduced price!
Dior Capture Youth Glow Booster Serum
One of the stars of the show in my daily skin routine has to be this fabulous serum from none other than Dior. Much like the facial wash, this product does what it says on the tin. It is meant to brighten and even out your skin tone, leaving you with a radiant complexion. This powerful little bottle contains 100x more concentrated vitamin C than an orange, and is in fact much more practical than eating hundreds of oranges – win win.
You can either apply this separately to moisturiser, or mix a few drops in and apply them together. I usually start by putting four drops of this around my face and gently rubbing them in, before adding moisturiser over the top. I have definitely noticed a difference from using this, and I feel like my skin feels much brighter after application! The serum is very light and fresh on the skin which is perfect because it doesn’t feel like you’re loaded up with product, nor does it make you oily!
This is an expensive product at £75 per bottle, but I was extremely lucky to have been gifted it as part of my collaboration with Dior. I love this product but if you don’t feel like you can splash out on it, then there are lots of other cheaper ones on the market that contain similar ingredients!
The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Protect Lotion
After loving the facial wash so much, I thought it made sense for me to explore the other products in The Body Shop’s Vitamin C range. The perfect partner to the polish, this little bottle also contains camu camu extract and promises to once again, brighten up your dull skin!
With the same scent as the facial wash, this product feels lovely and fresh on the face. It is quite a rich formula and, once again, a little bit goes a long way! Just one pea sized amount can easily moisturise your entire face. The best and most important thing about this moisturises is that it has SPF 30. This is what helped me to make the decision between this product and the Glow Boosting Moisturiser that they also sell, because as every dermatologist on the planet will remind you, you need to wear SPF every day to protect your skin, even in the winter months!
This product comes in at £15, and although this is quite steep for a moisturiser, I really feel like you pay for what you get with products like these. I know a lot of people who use this product and I haven’t heard any negative reviews so far!
Vitamin C Tablets
Taking vitamin C tablets is a really quick and easy way to boost your intake! They don’t have to be fancy ones, I just got these chewable orange flavoured ones from Aldi and they do the job perfectly.
The bottle states that vitamin C contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system, and helps to fight off fatigue. Overall, I think taking some sort of vitamin supplements during the winter is a really good idea to keep yourself healthy, but I opted for vitamin C specifically because of the benefits it can also have for your skin!
Vitamins can be extremely inexpensive but can do wonders for you during the colder months, so I would definitely recommend doing a little bit of research to find what works for you!
Rimmel London Lasting Radiance Primer
Last but not least, I wanted to feature this lovely little primer. This is the only product I’ve mentioned that doesn’t contain vitamin C, however it still promises to boost luminosity and leave skin feeling hydrated, but not oily. Personally, I think it really delivers on this promise!
Just a small amount of this primer can cover your whole face and it leaves you with a subtle glow that isn’t too sticky. I feel that my makeup applies on to this primer really nicely and you can still see the radiance shining through! Otherwise, I also think this is a really nice product to use without makeup, if your skin needs a little glowy boost!
This product is very inexpensive, coming in at under £7! So if you’re looking for a quick fix solution to tired winter skin then this is the perfect product for you!
So these are my absolute favourite products of the moment! I use all of these things on a daily basis and I think they all compliment each other really well. Upping your vitamin intake is an easy way to improve your skin and overall health during the cold months, and this is made even easier when you can find products that contact the vitamins that you need. So come on guys, let’s stand undefeated in this winter war against our skin, it’s time to get our glow back.
