This Bobbi Brown foundation transformed my skin

Finding a foundation that ticks every box, for me, can often feel like an impossible feat. Between searching for the perfect undertone, consistency, blendability, and that ultimate glowy-yet-not-shiny finish, achieving the effortless skin look isn’t really effortless at all.

In my opinion though, with the range of foundations available on the market, we can afford to be high maintenance, and I for one won’t settle for anything less than heaven in a bottle. Enter: Bobbi Brown’s magical formula.

Having dabbled in Bobbi Brown’s base products a few years ago, I was keen to go back to the brand to see what they had to offer, and the Skin Longwear Weightless Foundation was totally my type on paper. Lightweight and long-lasting with a true to skin finish? My checklist was starting to get pretty full. But as always, the proof is in the pudding, so I needed to test it out for myself.

Formula

Boasting a second-skin feel, this longwear formula claims to have ’16 hour medium-to-full crease-free coverage’. Something which, to my delight, I later found to be entirely true. Shea butter and glycerin hydrate the complexion, whilst SPF 15 offers some level of protection (not to be substituted for your normal SPF).

The line which really attracted my attention though, was the claim to provide ‘oil-free shine control’. As a lover of glowy formulas, escaping the inevitable shine that comes a few hours later has proved near-impossible (which is why I am armed with a pressed powder at all times). However, quite incredibly, I have been able to wear this foundation comfortably all day, without a single dusting of powder. Simply put, my shine is well and truly controlled.

Application

Kicking off my skin prep, I kept it on brand by patting a generous amount of the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base. Although admittedly late to the party with this one, I am loving the way this hybrid moisturiser-primer formula feels on my skin, and despite being a primer sceptic in the past, I do genuinely believe this product contributes to a more seamless base.

A dense, fluffy brush is my go-to for foundation application, so working in smaller sections, I applied small amounts to my skin and gently buffed it out. That familiar tense moment you feel when blending out a new foundation for the first time was thankfully very short-lived as I realised how easily this product melted into the skin. So far, so impressed.

Finish

Though described as a ‘skin-true matte’, I wouldn’t put this formula in the conventional matte category. The finish is, simply described, very skin-like. Natural, soft and radiant looking, but crucially, not shiny, the glow-getter within me was screaming!

At this point, I’m starting to feel like this product was literally hand-carved by the foundation gods.

Typically, I steer clear of foundations dubbed as ‘high coverage’ in favour of a more sheer glow (NARS Sheer Glow, to be precise), but this doesn’t feel cakey or thick on the skin. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Though it covers blemishes and evens out skin tone better than any foundation I’ve used before, it’s surprisingly breathable and, true to it’s name, weightless on the complexion. At this point, I’m starting to feel like this product was literally hand-carved by the foundation gods…

Staying power

The last thing you need to know about this foundation is that the long-lasting claims are, in my experience, absolutely true. I’ve worn this on photoshoot days walking round rainy Manchester, and through hours of sight-seeing in London, and it still looked just as fresh at the end of the day, without a touch of powder! Granted, I don’t have excessively oily skin, but that’s still an impressive feat on any complexion.

Overall review & rating

Rating: 5 out of 5.

So, in a totally non-dramatic way, I guess you could say this foundation has changed my life. Bobbi Brown has blessed me with the best base I’ve ever had, and it’s going to take a lot to knock this product off the top spot. At £35 a bottle it’s pricier than a drugstore foundation, but nonetheless, it’s a price I’m willing to pay for flawless skin. The only question that remains now is, how long until I cave in and add the entire Bobbi Brown collection to my basket? All guesses welcome in the comments…
