#Hydro2Facial at The Beautiful Truth

If you read my post on How to Get Your Glow Back then you’ll know that I’m really trying to up my skincare game this winter, in an effort to avoid the dreaded dryness and dullness that plagues me annually during the colder months. The night time temperatures officially dropped below zero a couple of days ago, so I’m prepared to go in all guns blazing and win the winter war against my skin. Luckily, I have found some comrades in the lovely staff at The Beautiful Truth salon in Peterborough!

I was extremely excited when I received a message a few weeks ago from The Beautiful Truth offering me the chance to try out their 3D-HydrOFacial in celebration of its launch this November. Not only is it their newest treatment, but they are the first salon in the Cambridgeshire area to offer it to their customers. So, it’s pretty exclusive stuff guys.

This treatment promises to provide a complete facial solution, effectively targeting multiple different skin concerns, including dehydration (aka my winter nemesis), skin-ageing, loose skin, dull complexion and congestion. What this essentially means is that it is suitable for pretty much anyone, and brings a wide variety of benefits, rather than being specifically targeted to only one area! That being said, it’s not simply a one-size-fits all facial, and you can personalise your treatment to tailor it to your own needs. By carefully going through a questionnaire with your beauty therapist beforehand, they can decide which combinations of treatments would work best for you based on a large range of factors from your diet, to your skin type, to your current skincare routine. This allows you to create a bespoke facial, that will give you optimum results for your personal skincare needs!

Of course, due to the personalised nature of the treatment, the steps will differ slightly for each person, but in this post, I am going to take you through my own personal combination and tell you a little bit about each step!

STEP ONE: HYDRO PEEL / DEEP CLEANSE

This first step was one of those really satisfying treatments. You know, the ones where you feel like you’re really getting all of the junk out of your pores. Similar in sensation and movement to a microdermabrasion, the machine uses three different solutions to extract dirt and hydrate skin. The solutions use both AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) and BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acids such as salicylic acid) to tackle bacteria and inflamed skin, with the last solution providing a nourishing effect.

Essentially, the hydro peel involves a lot of words that I don’t understand, but all of these acids are key players in the skincare game, giving you a really thorough cleanse to start off the facial!

STEP TWO: FIRE

This step really wasn’t as frightening as the name suggests, in fact, it was insanely relaxing. It is essentially an applicator that heats up and is rubbed all over your skin, helping to open your pores, increase blood supply to the face and allow the products to sink into your skin more easily. Think of it as a mini hot stone massage on your face…I bet that made you want to try it didn’t it?

This part was lovely because it was so warm and smooth on my skin, and the movements of the hot plate are akin to a massage, so you can really start to relax into your treatment!

STEP THREE: OXYGENATION

In contrast to the warmth of the previous step, the third part of my bespoke facial involved the coolness of an oxygenising spray. This step increases the flow of oxygen to the skin, providing multiple benefits. Firstly, it encourages maximum absorption of the product by breaking down the molecules, whilst also providing an anti-bacterial effect, eliminating certain bacteria that cannot survive in oxygen. Lastly, the oxygenation improves skin metabolism, preventing the issues associated with a lack of oxygen such as loss of firmness and premature ageing.

This was a refreshing step following the hot plate and it felt light as a feather on my skin!

STEP FOUR: ICE

Last but not least, it was time to cool things down even more. I’d had fire, so now I was given ice. Known as the ‘cryo facial’, the applicator chills the skin down to 5 degrees Celsius to finish off the facial. This not only reduces redness, but by decreasing the blood supply, it gives a tightening effect- and seals in the last of the product!

Once again this was a really nice feeling on my skin, feeling just like a massage. I only wish it could have carried on for longer…

Et voilà! There you have the Hydro Facial à la Alice Hope. This was my personal treatment to suit my needs, promoting clear, glowy and hydrated skin: my ultimate goal in the winter months! My facial lasted 30 minutes, however it can last up to an hour and a half depending on your wants and needs, with prices ranging from £49 to £130.

A few days later and my skin still feels very bright and smooth, used in conjunction with my normal skincare routine, I think the facial has given me the perfect boost!
