Satin Sensation

Is anybody else obsessed with slip dresses at the moment or is it just me? Because I seriously can’t get enough of them. Quite frankly, the urge to fill my entire wardrobe with these pretty little satin numbers is becoming somewhat overwhelming. Plus, the compulsion is becoming even more difficult to fight when Primark keeps stocking up on gorgeous slip dress styles for even prettier prices. I mean, how am I meant to refuse?

I recently uploaded some photos on my instagram of my last slip dress purchase and they got such a good response, it seems that you guys love Primark just as much as I do (joking that’s impossible). But, in light of the response, I thought I would do a little post about my two fave pieces of the moment…an ode to the slip dress if you will.

So first up is the Primark contender. You guys already know how much I adore Primark, but not only that, my store here in Toulouse is undoubtedly the best one I have ever been to, and probably the thing I am going to miss most about my year abroad…

So I was strolling through there a couple of weeks ago and I came across this gorgeous dress!

Coming in at just €16, this dress was a steal. I don’t usually go for green clothes but I really liked the muted tone of this dress, and I feel like once I get a tan in summer (which I am determined to do so), the colour will really compliment it!

This dress is loose enough to be able to move, but it doesn’t completely drown my figure, so I still feel as if I have some shape when I wear it. The only issue I have had is that because there is no slit, and I am a seriously fast walker, sometimes my legs feel a bit restricted as I walk and I sort of have to cinch it up to my knees to give me more mobility.  However, this might not be a problem for people who don’t walk at a freakishly fast pace. Either way, it’s not a deal breaker with this dress.

I love the way slip dresses look with a pair of fresh white trainers, I think it makes the dress perfect for comfortable day time wear, and the white of the trainers also compliments the pattern of the dress!

I finished off this look with a simple white bag. I love wearing white accessories in the summer months because I think it makes an outfit look so fresh. The dress is the starring role of this outfit so I didn’t want to add much in the way of accessories, preferring to keep the look simple. Simple but effective as I like to put it.

The second slip is this amazing one from Topshop that I actually bought last year. I have previously done a post about how I style it but I wanted to show another way I like to wear it during summer.

I find that if I wear this dress on its own I often feel overdressed for daytime wear. However, I then remember the wonders that a simple white t-shirt can do and all is well again. By pairing it with this white t-shirt, I immediately feel more comfortable and confident to walk around in the day!

I love the cowl neck of this dress and the way it falls so elegantly at the front. Plus, unlike the Primark one, this dress has a slit at the side, meaning that I have plenty of room to walk, or even enough room to do the splits should I want to (in a hypothetical situation where I am even remotely flexible enough to do the splits).

Like the Primark one, this dress is loose enough to move but sort of cinches in at all the right places, making it a really elegant piece. For this look, I paired it with my trusty white trainers again, but I also love the way the dress looks with little summer heels!

Overall, I am obsessed with this dress, and I managed to get it in the Topshop sale a while ago for something like £15 which is amazing! I am definitely going to be dressing this up and down all throughout summer.

Over the course of this year, it’s inevitable that my collection is going to grow, but I’m going to try my best not to let it get out of control (no promises). Slip dresses are so versatile and I love that they can be dressed up or down to suit so many different occasions, I mean what’s not to like?

What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe at the moment? I’d love to know in the comments below!

LOVE your slipdress choices!! I’m on the hunt for just the right one and now I’ll take a look at primark. My fave item in my wardrobe right now is either my high waisted Reformation wide-leg jeans (that’s a mouthful, haha) or my Los Angeles Apparel tennis skirt. Hopefully soon a slip dress will be among them! Thanks for a great post!
