My University Bedroom

I have noticed many advantages of living in an actual house during my second year at university- not least the fact that I am no longer paying an extortionate price for a single-bed, box room with a flimsy mattress and paper thin walls. Don’t get me wrong, living in halls is a great experience, and despite its tiny size and dingy nature, I did have a little love affair with my first year bedroom. However, now that I am blessed with the luxury of a double bed and other comforts, I can genuinely perceive my house as a home as opposed to just a room that I am renting out for the year.

Growing up in my household, I observed my mum’s avid love for all things regarding home design, so naturally, I was thrilled at the prospect of decorating my new bedroom. I kept it cheap and cheerful with most of my items coming from Primark and Wilkos, both of which have home ranges that are stylish and affordable. I love the way my room has turned out and so I would like to use this post to share some of my favourite bits with you.

My Bed

I kept my bedding simple with just a plain white duvet cover (which was surprisingly difficult to find), but then added detail with lots of cushions and a fluffy throw. It’s no wonder I spend most of my day laying in bed.

Obviously no bed frame is complete without fairy lights, I combined some simple copper wire lights with some bigger white roses and a hanging heart to finish off the look.

My Desk

Although I love doing work whilst laying in bed, unfortunately this often leads to impromptu naps and a big pile of unfinished reading. So, for the sake of my degree I’ve actually started making use of my desk. Most of my items have actually been recycled from my first year room as I’m still obsessed with my rose gold theme. There is something so satisfying about having multiple matching items…I just wish my desk looked this tidy all the time.

Wall Hanging

After getting sick of staring at a blank wall in my first year bedroom, I decided to buy something that would make it seem just a little less prison-like. I loved the pattern of this sheet and costing less that £10 from Amazon, it was an absolute steal. It looked so cute in my first room that I decided to bring it to my new house as well. I finished off the feature with some hanging terrariums, a faux ivy plant and obviously, some fairy lights.

Shelves

Even though I should probably be using my shelves for books, I’ve decided to use them for makeup and skin products instead. Sticking to the rose gold theme, these baskets from Primark are really cheap and great for makeup storage. I also have a slight obsession with ornaments that have my initials on, and with this lamp also being a steal from Primark, I couldn’t resist.

Accessories

Aside from the main features, it’s nice to add some extra accessories along the way, you may notice an ongoing theme with these pieces…

So those are my favourite aspects of my uni bedroom. I managed to create my desired look whilst sticking to a smaller budget by shopping around for cheaper products. I love the way it has turned out and if you are struggling with a plain, box-like bedroom, or simply can’t think of ideas to decorate your new space, then hopefully my little room can give you some inspiration.
